ARTIFICIAL AGING THROUGH STEAMING

STEAM IS USED AS A SIMPLE METHOD TO AGE WOOD ARTIFICIALLY AND THUS ENHANCE IT.

IN CLOSED ROOMS, LIGNIN COMPONENTS SUCH AS SUGAR, RUBBER
AND TANNING AGENTS IN MILL-RUN WOODS ARE DECOMPOSED USING WATER VAPOUR.

THE TEMPERATURE MUST NOT EXCEED 100°C SO THAT THE WOOD FIBRES ARE NOT CHANGED AND WEAKENED. AFTER UP TO 180 HOURS, THE WOOD IS REMOVED AND DRIED. THE DURATION OF THE STEAMING OFTEN DEPENDS ON THE STRENGTH OF THE WOOD.

WE STEAM OUR SAWN PRODUCTS SO THAT THE WOOD COLOURS ARE
EVEN MORE INTENSIVELY BROWN. A CERTAIN EVENNESS OF THE SURFACE COLOUR
IS ALSO ACHIEVED HERE THAT HIGHLY FAVOURS THE USE OF THE SAWN PRODUCTS.
