RECLAIMED WOOD A LIVING, SUSTAINABLE AND VALUABLE MATERIAL
Made in Bavaria

As versatile as the range of the oldest material on earth is also the palette of reclaimed wood products. Depending on the purpose, we will guide you to find exactly the appropriate material for your individual needs.

ORIGINAL HAND CHOPPED RECLAIMED WOOD BEAMS / RAFTERS

Before 1900, before the invention of sawmills, it was backbreaking work for carpenters to handmake round logs into a squared beam with a special wide axe. Each beam bore the individual signature of its carpenter inside. Every single beam was made into something unique with its natural patina and signs of use over bygone centuries. Just like the beams offered a roof over the head of the inhabitants of the house beneath, they also gave many a woodworm a home. This gives almost every reclaimed wood beam an distinctive and unique appearance.
CHOPPED SIDES FROM RECLAIMED WOOD BEAMS

Chopped sides result from the separation of individual sides of original hand chopped reclaimed wood beams using a bandsaw. This produces a board with a chopped surface on one side. Ideally we are able to produce four boards from one beam - two with original edges, two with borders. This saves valuable resources and enables processing for carpenters and joiners to be more economical. All features and characteristics as of hand chopped reclaimed wood beams are of course retained, only the cut on the other side is different in structure and colour.
SUN BURNED - NATURALLY AGED

These exceptional reclaimed wood boards have covered barn floors and upper floors for decades, often adorned by ornately cut decorative ornaments. Depending on the respective direction, these boards are particularly and impressively weather resistant. Over time, the sun has tanned the south sides from a light brown tone to deep black. In contrast, on the west, east, and north side we find an interplay of delicately shining silver-grey, sometimes a little darker, sometimes a little lighter depending on the year of construction and exact location. The older they are, the deeper or bigger the difference between the early and late wood, that is the lighter and darker tree rings in the boards.
RECLAIMED WOOD FLOORS WITH ORIGINAL PRESERVED SURFACES

Before the age of sawmills, floorboards were made by hand with great effort with pit saws. For centuries, the residents washed, scrubbed, and brushed the original floors, which left an incomparable structure and colouring with signs of use. Hand-planed nut and spring connections become also visible when reclaimed wood floors are carefully salvaged from old living spaces to retain and preserve their value. The surfaces of barn floors from hay warehouses are often left with marks from horseshoes, pitchforks, and tractors pointing to a rich history of work.
OLD OAK - A RARE AND VALUABLE MATERIAL

As shoring oak used to be quite rare in our latitude, this material is extremely hard to find nowadays!

Despite these obstacles, we always manage to procure this precious wood from centuries past for our customers.

In those days, oak beams were often sawn by hand and not with an axe. Very often each beam is different from the others on its surface. They often have split bases.
SAWN RECLAIMED WOOD PRODUCTS

Sawn products arise as a side effect of manufacturing chopped sides. They also appear as the mid part cutting reclaimed beams at a a bandsaw, as well as from very thick threshing floorboards. The original edge disappears here completely and a honey coloured spruce wood becomes visible that is marked by beautiful core cracks that emerge more after natural drying. Further processing for carpenters and joiners is done in the usual way as with new wood. Features and characteristics such as worm trails, nail holes and pin marks are of course retained and only the cut features are indicative of modern production.
SAWN VENEERS AND 3-LAYER PANELS

On request, we will cut sawn veneers for you from our reclaimed woods. We perform the incision with both the "natural side" and from the "full side". Our standard thickness is 8 - 10 mm. We also cut to customer specifications. Our sawn veneers comprise the basic material for our three-layer panels. Three layers, glued to each other length ways and transversely, result in a final thickness of ca. 20mm. Boards allow production to be faster and easier. Two glued layers are also popular amongst our private customers because a solid board is still being used.
HAND-MADE BOARDS AND ROUGH-SAWN UNDERLAY FORMWORKS

The surfaces of hand-made boards have been crafted for many years with traditional planning tools by hand. Sometimes a bit rough, sometimes more polished, but always by hand. The tears from the planners are highly visible on the branches. With a smooth feel of full brown these boards could tell ancient stories from the past. The surface of the underlaying framework is still sawed to some extent and all other traces can be clearly recognised. The brownish colour from the brush, too, creates warm and cosy effects.
